The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 is here, and it’s one of the most affordable foldable flagships to this date. With a price tag that starts at $999.99, it’s the first foldable device to directly compete with other premium and high-end flagship smartphones currently available, and it will be hard to beat in the western market.

Samsung has also announced many other devices at today’s Galaxy Unpacked event, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 5G, the brand new smartwatches – the Galaxy Watch 4 and Watch 4 Classic, and the next generation of wireless earbuds – the Samsung Galaxy Buds2. Every new device has received a few new colors, hardware upgrades, software improvements, and a number of tweaks and enhancements to make them better and more durable.

When will the Galaxy Z Flip 3 be available?

Samsung has officially confirmed that the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip3 – and nearly all of the other devices announced today – will be available for pre-order now. The open sale will start on August 27.

How much will the Galaxy Z Flip 3 cost?

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 will start from $999.99 for the 8GB RAM and 128GB storage model, and it will be available for pre-order from August 11. The open sale will start on August 27. Samsung will sell the devices on its website and in-stores, but most carriers are expected to carry them and have them available, and you may also be able to pick them up at larger retailers sooner or later. However, note that some color options will only be available from Samsung directly as they will stay exclusive.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3: Design

The design of the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 is very similar to its predecessor. It can still flip, and the buttons and other hardware key placements – including the capacitive fingerprint sensor on the side – have remained the same, but it has received several upgrades to the feel and many refinements to make this a true second-generation product. Samsung has learned its lesson from the Galaxy Z Fold and Fold series, and it shows that the company applied that knowledge in this Galaxy Z Flip 3.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5G will be available in four color options, Cream, Green, Lavender, and Phantom Black. Samsung will also sell you the exclusive color options directly from its website in Gray, White, and Pink colors. A special Thom Browne Edition will also be available for the Galaxy Z Flip 3.

Further customization options will also be available since Samsung has made several new cases and covers. These are made out of high-quality materials and many different colors to allow you to express yourself and fit your lifestyle.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3: Display

The display quality has received a few improvements and advancements. The panel is better and brighter than the previous generation. The crease, however, is still present on the Galaxy Z Flip3. Decreasing the crease and fully removing it will likely take a few more years as the technology needs to advance.

The external display has received perhaps the biggest and most noticeable upgrade, as it’s now four times larger. The 1.9-inch display can easily be used to take selfies and video content while the device is fully folded. The screen can also be used for checking the weather, and it can even match the wallpaper of your new Galaxy Watch 4 series for a matching look. Samsung has also built the NFC, and Samsung Pay features directly into the cover screen, so it’s easier than ever to make purchases with your Galaxy Z Flip 3 while on-the-go.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3: Camera

The camera hardware on the Galaxy Z Flip 3 is identical to the one on its predecessor, the Galaxy Z Flip from 2020. That’s not to say you shouldn’t expect upgrades in photo and video quality, but they may not be as significant as you would expect.

The primary camera is a 12MP wide-angle sensor with Dual Pixel autofocus and OIS. The secondary sensor is a 12MP ultra-wide camera with an aperture of f/2.2 and a field of view of 123-degrees. The selfie camera is 10MP.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3: Battery

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 comes with a 3,300 mAh battery, which is ever so slightly smaller than on the original Galaxy Z Flip. The battery life is expected to be about to same, thanks to the more power-efficient and powerful chipset, the Snapdragon 888 SoC. The Z Flip 3 can be charged at 15W with a cable, and it also supports 10W wireless charging. Reverse wireless charging is still here, and you can charge your accessories and the Galaxy Buds2 at 4.5W, like on the previous Z Flip.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3: Improvements

The new Galaxy Z Flip3 mainly focuses on productivity and entertainment features but let’s not forget that it’s also a fashion piece thanks to its compact and stylish design. The biggest improvement to the Z Flip 3 is that the cover display (external screen) is now four times larger, offers great new functionality to take better selfies, see the calendar, and match the wallpaper with your Galaxy Watch 4.

The device also comes with one of the latest and greatest chipsets on the market, the Snapdragon 888 SoC. It’s 5G compatible, and it can handle any and all tasks that you throw at it, be it tasks, surfing the web, or even playing graphics-intensive games for long periods.

The device has also received several design enhancements to ensure that it’s more durable. Thanks to the refined design, it has received IPX8 certification, which means that it can now withstand submersion for up to 1.5 meters of fresh water for up to 30 minutes. Unfortunately, dust and sand are still not a match for foldable devices, but we’re glad to see that Samsung is now offering a bit more peace of mind.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3: Software

The software of the Galaxy Z Flip3 will be nearly identical, if not the same, as the one that you’ve seen on the flagship Galaxy S series. It will have Samsung’s own One UI 3.1 based on Android 11. There will be a lot of improvements to the foldable user interface, and Samsung promises that content should scale better now, proving an even better experience when using the Galaxy Z Flip3 in various positions. Samsung will update the Galaxy Z Flip3 for three more years of OS updates and provide five years of security updates.
